How to Make Bubble Candles

Learn to craft trendy bubble candles with our simple guide, perfect for adding a unique touch to any space.

Ever since becoming a hugely popular trend on TikTok a few years ago, people have been eager to learn how to make bubble candles.

These cool little designs add a bit of fun and flair to your home, and their unique shape ensures they look great in pretty much any environment.

If you’re new to making bubble candles, fear not, as we’ve put together an easy step-by-step guide for you to follow.

What is a bubble candle?

A bubble candle is simply a candle that has a rounded moulded design that gives it a bubble aesthetic.

They are sometimes referred to as bubble cube candles, as the bubble design is often shaped into a cube and they also come in a host of different colours, making it easy to find one to suit your home.

However, the great thing about bubble candles is that they can be shaped into lots of different designs, including pyramids and cylindrical shapes.

How to make bubble candles

Before you take your first step towards learning how to make a bubble candle, you will need to gather the following ingredients:

You’ll also need to use a few different pieces of equipment:

  • Silicone bubble candle moulds
  • Bow tie wick bar
  • Candle wicks
  • Pouring pot
  • Saucepan
  • Mason jar
  • Wooden skewer
  • Paper plate

Instructions on how to make bubble candles

  1. Take the bow tie wick bar and thread the candle wick through the hole. Once finished, place the wick-bar side up on a paper plate.
  2. Fill the saucepan with water (about halfway) and place it onto a medium heat until it reaches a low boil.
  3. Next, add the wax flakes to a heat proof bowl, place the bowl into the saucepan and let the wax melt, taking care to frequently stir the mixture.
  4. Once you have liquid wax, pour an amount equal to your moulds into a mason jar. You can then add the candle wax dye and slowly mix until the dye has completely dissolved. If you are using scents, now is the time to add them.
  5. Pour the wax into your moulds and put them aside to set where they will not be disturbed.
  6. It will take a few hours for the wax to set, and when it is ready, carefully remove the bow tie wick bar and the mould. Trim the wick so it is about once inch about the wax.

The longest part of learning how to make a bubble candle is waiting for the wax to set, as the first four steps can be completed quite quickly.

If you are using scents, you may want to leave the bubble candle to cure for 24-48 hours to intensify the aroma they can produce.

How long do bubble candles last?

Bubble candles can last anywhere between 4-5 hours, although it depends on other factors that will affect its burn rate.

This includes the type of wax used to make them, how well maintained they are and whether they are affected by any nearby drafts.

Things to avoid when making bubble candles

Here are a few helpful tips on what to look out for as you make your bubble candles:

  • Don’t rush the wax: Naturally, you’ll be eager to start using your new bubble candles, but make sure the wax is fully set and ready before lighting the wick. It will take a little time for the wax to fully harden, and don’t be tempted to put them in the fridge to quicken the process as this can have the opposite effect.
  • Keep aside some heated wax: Wax shrinks, so after first filling the moulds to the top, you may notice that they shrink a little at the base. Keep a little wax heated to one side, and feel free to add a little more if needed.
  • Ensure your moulds are well cleaned: Once you’ve finished with the mould, make sure that you have cleaned out every last bit of wax, as if there are any remaining pieces, they will likely show up in your next batch.
