What is vanilla oil used for?
Vanilla fragrance oil is used for various applications. It's a popular ingredient in homemade personal care items like soaps, lotions, and candles, imparting a comforting, warm scent.
It can also enhance your living spaces with a rich aroma when utilised in diffusers, oil burners, or potpourri.
Is vanilla oil and vanilla extract the same thing?
Vanilla extract is made by soaking vanilla beans in alcohol to draw out the flavour and is commonly used in cooking and baking.
On the other hand, vanilla oil or vanilla fragrance oil is used primarily in soaps, candles, and other aromatic products for its warm and comforting scent and It's not meant for ingestion.
Can vanilla oil be used as perfume?
Vanilla fragrance oil can make a great perfume, but it should be properly diluted with a carrier oil before applying directly to the skin to prevent irritation. It's recommended to conduct a patch test first to check for any skin reactions.
However, because it's typically stronger and longer-lasting than regular perfumes, it’s best to start with a small amount and adjust according to your preference.

Once melted, stir in the vanilla fragrance oil. The amount can vary, but typically, 1-3% of your soap's weight in oil is suggested. Mix thoroughly to ensure even distribution of scent.
Pour the mixture into your soap mould, allowing it to cool and harden completely.
How to make candles with vanilla fragrance oil
To make candles with vanilla fragrance oil, begin by gently melting your candle wax in a double boiler. Once fully melted, remove from heat and let it cool a bit.
Next, add the vanilla fragrance oil - roughly 30 ml per kilogram of wax is a good starting point. Ensure the oil is well mixed for an even scent distribution.
Pour the scented wax into your pre-wicked candle containers and allow it to set and harden completely. Always follow safety instructions when handling hot wax and fragrance oils.
